Residents of Nchiraa in the Wenchi District have embarked on a number of development projects, estimated at 120 million cedis to give the town a face-lift. The project include the building of a community centre and a market and extension of electricity to the town. The chairman of the Nchiraa Area Council, Mr Kwaku Amoah-Tutu told newsmen that residents are contributing 10,000 cedis a man and 5,000 cedis a woman, while non-resident citizens are paying 20,000 cedis and 10,000 cedis per man and woman respectively. He praised citizens of the town residing in Accra for raising some funds in support of the projects and urged the people to pay up their contributions in time to ensure the success of the programme. The chairman of the Projects' Committee, Nana Awuah Kyeremeh said 140 low tension poles out of the 190 poles needed for the electrification project had already been purchased. He was grateful to the former Wenchi East Member of Parliament, Mr Hayford Osei Kwadwo for providing the community with 60 poles to supplement their efforts and called on the Wenchi District Assembly to assist them with 50 poles.
