Need to build safety prevention capacity in aviation - Allotey

Accra, Nov. 29, GNA - Mr Simon Allotey, Acting Director General of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), on Wednesday stressed the need to build human capacity within the aviation sector to ensure safety. He said: "Although safety is the key in aviation operations world wide, it cannot be guaranteed always and it is prudent that appropriate measures are instituted in the event that safety fails." Mr Allotey made the call in an address read on his behalf by Mr Willie Orhin, Deputy Director General in-charge of Finance and Administration of GCAA, at a day's Search and Rescue Seminar organised by management of GCAA in Accra.

Participants drawn from 19 organisations including Ghana Army, Ghana Red Cross Society, Ghana Police Service, Airline Operators Committee and Airport Press Corps attended the seminar. He said in line with Article 25 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, there was the need for respective countries to be well prepared for any emergency that might arise concerning safety in the aviation sector.

Mr Allotey said in line with the convention's requirements, the seminar was to address coordination among stakeholders in the event of an accident.
