New Asantefuohene/Asantefuohemaa of Toronto to be elected

Asanteman Association of Toronto is to elect New Asantefuohene/Asantefuohemaa As Nana Bandoh and Nana Amma Serwaa’s terms of office end

At a general meeting of the Asanteman Association of Toronto held on Sunday October 11, 2009, it was announced that the current 3-year term of office of the administration of Nana Bandoh and Nana Amma Serwaa, Asantefuohene and Asantefuohemaa respectively ended in October 2009.

A Media Release issued by the Association pointed out that in accordance with the Constitution of the Asanteman Association of Toronto, the Council of Elders is mandated to take over the affairs of the Association until elections are held to elect new Asantefuohene and Asantefuohemaa.

Nana Bandoh and Nana Amma serwaa were sworn into office for a 3year- term on October 7, 2006. Nana Bandoh is eligible to contest for a second term of office if he so wishes, but Nana Amma Serwaah has ended her 2nd term in office and is therefore ineligible to contest the same office again according to the constitution.

An Electoral Commission will be set up at the next meeting in November of the Association to organize the elections to elect the new leaders.

The current Council of Elders of the Asanteman Association: are Nana Cobbina, Abusuapanin, Nana Wiafe-Akenteng, Nana Osei- Achampong, Nana Serebour, Nana Love Koduah and Nana Abena Mansah.

The Association meetings are held at Malton Community Center every second Sunday of the Month. All Asantes in the Greater Toronto Area are welcome to join the Association.
