New Ghana born – Prof. Kweku Asare

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The speech of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his inaugural ceremony on Saturday January 7 shows that a new Ghana has been born, Kweku Asare, a United States-based Ghanaian professor, has said.

According to him, the president’s speech is a demonstration that he has “thought long and hard about what it means to be a president”.

The president, among other things, said: “I am deeply humbled by the exceptional mandate and extraordinary show of confidence that the Ghanaian people have conferred on my party, the New Patriotic Party, and on my modest person.

"I am determined to do all in my power to accomplish the task of the mandate and justify their confidence. I will not let you, the people of Ghana, down.”

Prof Asare wrote on his Facebook wall: “The inaugural speech makes it abundantly obvious that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thought long and hard about what it means to be a president. This is an intangible asset that will serve him well.

“I am particularly impressed and intrigued by his call for active citizenship, coequality of the trinity of government, and the protection of the public purse. It surely feels like Ghana is born again.”
