New Mampong Akwapim Queen mother installed

Akwapim-Mampong (E/R), Sept. 2 GNA - A 48-year old National Secretary of the Women's Committee of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) was at weekend installed as the queen mother of Akwapim-Mampong Traditional Area, under the stool name of Nana Akua Peibei.

She succeeds Nana Ama Nyakoa, a Cousin, who stepped down five years ago due to ill health.

Known in private life as Ms Mary Sakyi, Nana Peibei works with the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine at Mampong and is also the Assembly Woman for the Mampong Electoral Area.

Nana Peibei swore the oath of allegiance to the chiefs and people asked for their co-operation and support to develop the area. The Chief of Mampong, Nana Otu Pabi 1V advised the new Queen mother to do what in her views is right in the sight of God and beneficial to the society and lead the people in the fear of God.

He explained that chieftaincy is not idolatry but rather a way of organising people in a given area to respect traditions.
