Accra, Aug. 16, GNA - The Slim Busterr Global Foundation for Needy Children, a new non-governmental organisation on Monday feted the kids at the Osu Children's Home as a prelude to the inauguration of the Foundation on September 3.
Slim Busterr Asare, a renowned Ghanaian musician, who is President and Founder of the Foundation led a group of members to entertain the children to soft drinks and pastries provided by the organisation, amidst music and dancing.
Mrs Bernice A. Welbeck, Executive Director of the Foundation told the Ghana News Agency that her organisation had been set up to support needy children, children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and those living in deprived communities.
"The idea was conceived because of the plight of many Ghanaian children who are suffering as a result of poverty, HIV/AIDS, diseases and socio-economic difficulties", she said. Mrs Welbeck said the vision of the Foundation was to bring to the fore, the plight of children who were facing hard times and to support them with funds raised through the organisation of musical concerts and other activities.
"Proceeds from such activities will be donated to identifiable needy institutions and for the purchase of educational materials like books, school uniforms for deprived children," the Executive Director said.
She said some of the proceeds would also go to children's hospitals and clinics taking care of HIV/AIDS children and those orphaned by AIDS and for the organisation of recreational activities for children. Madam Helena Obeng Asamoah, Head of the Home expressed her gratitude to the Foundation for the gesture, saying such activities helped to raise the hopes of the children for the future.
