New Voters Roll: NPP just making useless noise

NDC Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho NDC Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its assigns of playing to the gallery by engaging statesmen over their call for a new voters register ahead of the 2016 elections.

According to the NDC, the NPP and its cohorts Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) have resorted to making a lot of noise over their claim of a bloated voters register, simply because they know their evidence presented to the EC lacks substance.

The NPP and LMVCA are bent on ensuring the Electoral Commission compiles a new electoral album for the next elections insisting that about 80,000 foreign nationals had been registered on the current register which affects its credibility.

The pressure group, LMVCA, in intensifying its campaign, have already called on the ex-President J.J Rawlings, his wife Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, who is the leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and ex-President Kufuor at separate engagements, to explain their position on the voters register to them in order to get the leaders to support their course.

However, speaking to Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Si Mi So on Kasapa 102.3 FM, a deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho, stated that the NPP wants the process for the compilation of a new register started so that it could populate it with minors especially in its stronghold, a development that the NDC has vowed to vehemently resist.

He noted that the NPP in striving to stampede the EC into taking a position on the register which will inure to its benefit is rather making a complete mockery of itself.

“You are saying let my vote count, the EC is also saying let the voices of the other parties and civil society organization count, but you are not allowing that to happen. The NPP is behaving like one of the two women who presented their case before the great King Solomon in the Bible. After we have all taken our case to the EC, the NPP is making noise just like the evil woman the Bible talks about.

"While we (NDC) say the register must be left untouched like the baby, the NPP wants it replaced for their parochial interest. They have absolutely no case but just making useless noise.”
