Accra, Jan. 8, GNA - The Ghana Federation of the Disabled (GFD), on Wednesday asked the new government to redeem its promises to Ghanaians, especially the disabled. A statement signed by Mr Yaw Ofori Debra, Chairman of GFD Advocacy Committee, said "It is our firm belief that when President John Atta Mills talks about an all-inclusive government, it carries an implicit call for an all inclusive society in which the needs of all segments of the populace are considered". It called on President Mills as well as the Appointments and Vetting Committee of Parliament to consider qualified persons with disability for higher political positions.
The statement appealed to the President to inaugurate the National Council on Persons with Disability within his first 100 days in office, to indicate his commitment to the cause of persons with disabilities. It congratulated President Mills and commended political parties for the smooth electioneering process towards the just ended polls.
