New moderator of Presbyterian Church of Ghana to advance Presbyterianism

Kumasi, Sept. 27, GNA - The Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator-elect of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has expressed his commitment to work assiduously for the growth of Presbyterianism during his tenure of office.

He said he is committed to the vision and mission statement of the church to improve the spiritual and physical lives of the people. Rev Martey was addressing the Bomso congregation of the church at a farewell service in Kumasi, in honour of Professor (Mrs) Comfort Charity Atuahene, out-going Asante Presbytery Women's Lay Representative of the General Assembly, whose three- year mandate had ended. The Moderator-elect affirmed his willingness to liaise with the out-going Moderator, Right Reverend Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, and other past leaders in the discharge of his duties.

He described the out-going Moderator as a visionary leader whose six-year term of office saw the total progress of the church. Rev Martey said his predecessor left a legacy which ought to be protected.

"I hope to continue with all viable projects, programmes and policies he initiated in the interest, growth and development of the church." Rev Kwabena Opuni -Frimpong, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery, observed that the church would be grateful to Prof Atuahene for advancing the cause of women in the deliberations of the Assembly. He challenged women in the church to emulate the exemplary leadership qualities of the out-going Lay Representative.

Prof Atuahene thanked the identifiable women groups in the church for their unflinching support, which she said enabled her to succeed in her work.
