New national Poly executives take office

Ho, Dec. 14 GNA - A new National Executive Committee (NEC) for the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) was on Wednesday inducted into office at Ho Polytechnic. The eleven-member committee is to run the affairs of the union for the 20005/2006 academic years.

In a speech read for him, Mr. Kwadwo Adjei, the out-going president of GNUPS advised the new executives against the perception that student leadership was full of "honey" and a joyous one adding that it was a sacrificial one. He urged them to approach issues brought before them on principles of dialogue other than hostility because experience had shown that dialoguing solves problem better than belligerency.

Mr. Sedem Martin Kwame, the in-coming president of GNUPS on behalf of the other executives appealed to the Principals of Polytechnics not to see the union as a threat to their administration but rather as partners in educational development. He promised to lead the union devoid of self-interest, political affiliation, ethnocentrism and religious consideration. " I would also like to emphatically place it on record that, I shall never allow my personal sentiments to over-shadow administrative rationality", he said.

Mr Kojo Adanu, Vice Principal of Ho Polytechnic who chaired the ceremony advised the students to attach the necessary importance to industrial attachment and to be patient with the issue of job placements.
