Some new nomadic herdsmen have invaded Akwadum, a Suburb of the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region with their cattle.

The presence of the herders, believe to be of Fulani extraction, has already triggered tension between them and the farmers following destruction of their crops.

The farmers say they may apply violence means to sack the herdsmen and their cattle from the area by next weeks if they do not move from the area.

Meanwhile officials of the National Disaster Management Organization and the Akwadum Police have reportedly warned the herders to vacate from the area by the end of this week.

In a related development, there is a similar uneasy calm at Anyaboni settlement area and other farming communities in the Upper Manya Krobo District over incursion of hundreds of Cattle to the area by some fulani herders .

Anyaboni resettlement area, Aframase, Akateng, Poliwa, Terguanya, and other farming communities are notorious for standoff with Nomadic Fulani herdsmen. The clashes mostly occur during the dry season when cattle are brought to the area to graze.

In 2017 for instance there was clashes between farmers and the herdsmen after large acres of farms were destroyed by cattle of herdsmen .The compensation packages that were to be paid by the cattle owners to the farmers were not fully paid.

Assemblyman for Anyaboni Resettlement/Aframase Electoral Area, Emmanuel Kwasi Laweh said, they will not allow the problem to resurface hence was mobilizing farmers in the communities to crash the herdsmen who have defied warning not to send their cattle to the area.
