New office of GPRTU tipper trucks inaugurated

Kumasi, July 19, GNA - A new office for the Kumasi Tipper Trucks branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has been inaugurated with a call on members to obey traffic regulations as a way to reduce road accidents.

Nana Sarfo-Kantanka, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Union in-charge of welfare, said tipper trucks play a crucial role in the socio-economic development of the country and so there was the need for them to be law-abiding.

He urged them to refrain from alcoholism and drugs, adding that their work was a difficult one, which demanded clear mind so as to avoid the fatal accidents associated with tipper truck drivers.

Nana Sarfo-Kantanka asked the members to involve themselves actively in the activities and programmes of the Union at all levels.

Mr Peter Kwame Donkor, Kumasi branch chairman of the union, said the branch had pumped 10 million cedis into the completion and furnishing of the office located within the regional secretariat of the GPRTU at Mbrom.

Mr Donkor commended all those who contributed in diverse ways towards the achievements of the branch and said efforts would be made to make the branch a force to reckon with in the Union.
