The City of Newark, New Jersey, United States of America, has launched an inter-city exchange programme with the Accra through the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The potential areas of the exchanges would be cooperation in renewable energy, education, information and communication technology (ICT), environment, culture and good city management practices.
Mr Ras J. Baraka, Mayor of Newark, made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, on Monday and also to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Mr Baraka said Newark had a lot of experiences to share with the Ghanaian business community which would create a forum for exchange to bring together a long standing relationship for opportunities between the two cities.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity granted them to exchange experiences for the benefit of the people.
Dr Vanderpuije said the initiative with the Newark City was to give more meaning to the commitment of the two cities.
“It is also a confirmation of the importance of the government’s contribution to the private sector in the country, particularly in the area of health, education and sanitation,” he said.
He said the United States, through its development partners, had helped to deepen relations with Ghanaians, adding that the United States Agency for International Development had easily identified with the people making the beneficiary communities in Ghana part and parcel of their programmes.
The MCE called for collaboration between the two cities for a holistic and comprehensive approach to the socio-economic development of Ghana.
