Adako-Jachie (Ash), Oct 12, GNA=96 Newmont Mining Corporation has refurbished the Adako-Jachie M/A primary school in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality at a cost of GH¢10,000.00. The scope of work involved recasting of the floors and verandas, fixing of new windows and painting. Books and other educational materials were als= o donated to the pupils. The gesture was part of the 93Day of Caring Programme" instituted by= the Corporation together with the United Way-Ghana (UWG), an NGO, dedicated to working in partnership with corporate bodies and charities to bring development to people in deprived areas.
Thirty-five (35) of Newmont's Global Business Excellence Team drawn f= rom Africa, North and South America, Asia and Australia, who are in Kumasi for their teaming session, on Wednesday joined volunteers from the Adako-Jachie community to paint the school, clean the compound and interact with the pupils.
Mr Ishmael Cyprian Oppong, Regional Director, Business Excellence, Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, said community service was not just about the "feel-good" factor but a way of giving back to the society. Through collaboration with UWG, they had supported various institutions and charities including the Kantamanto Street Girls' Aid Project in Accra= , Manya Krobo Queen Mothers Association, Akropong School for the Blind, Accra Psychiatric Hospital and Obeng-Manu Presbyterian Primary and JHS at Kenyase in the Brong Ahafo region.
Mr Oppong said Newmont would continue to be part of efforts at helping to improve the living conditions of people in deprived communities. Mr Jonathan Akuamoah, Executive Director of UWG, said through the Day o= f Caring and Workplace programmes, more corporate bodies had signed up to provide social amenities and community service to poor communities in Ghana= ..
