Nfojoh Supports 3 Communities

The NDC Member of Parliament for the Ho Central constituency, Hon. Captain (rtd) George Kofi Nfojoh, took advantage of the occasion of the annual Yam Festival of the Chiefs and people of Ho to visit three communities in the Tanyigbe Traditional Area near Ho.

The communities were Etoe, Akoefe and Takla-Torkor. In all the communities that he visited, Hon. Nfodjoh supported various developmental projects with donations of building materials, as well as cash donations.

Briefing his constituents on developments in parliament before parliament came on its recent recess, Hon. Nfodjoh noted that one of the critical bills that was before parliament prior to this last recess was the People’s Representation (Amendment) Bill, which, he described as a very contentious bill. He therefore urged his constituents to share their thoughts on whether or not the bill should be passed.

Almost invariably, the consensus was that parliament should not pass the said bill. Many expressed the view that the passage of the said bill, without first ensuring that envisaged bureaucratic bottlenecks, logistic and administrative problems have been adequately addressed and/or provided for, is a recipe for chaos and anarchy.

“Can we imagine what might happen if after collation of election results in Ghana a particular party wins the Presidential seat and the supporters of that party were in jubilation, only for them to be told a few days later that the so-called diasporan votes have altered the verdict and their candidate was no longer the winner?” one of the constituents asked.

“Does anyone really know the population of Ghanaians living outside the shores of this country? If we don’t know that how are we to know that the ballots would not be inflated to favour one party or the other?” another constituent asked.

The honourable member thanked them for their views and assured them that he would ensure that their views are represented in the position he would take on the bill in parliament.

At a durbar held to round-off the celebration of the Yam festival in Etoe, Mr. S.Y. Akafia, delivering a speech on behalf of the Chief, Torgbui Darko III, drew attention to the problem of poor drainage system that the community is facing, and called for quick intervention to arrest the situation in order to save the natural vegetation from getting depleted as a result of erosion.

He also appealed to the Electricity Company to help solve the problem of frequent power outage in the area, as the frequent power outages are having a serious debilitating economic impact on the already impoverished people in the community as a result of damages to their electrical appliances and equipments.

Hon. Nfojoh in his address urge the constituents to get actively involved in the affairs of the community by supporting viable ventures that have the potential of uplifting the image of the area, saying, “the time has come for us to support ourselves, because the government has totally neglected our plight”.

He urged his constituents to endeavour to register for the national health insurance scheme.

After launching a three-hundred-million-cedi drainage project in the Etoe community, Hon. Nfodjoh gave a cash donation of 10million cedis in support of the project.

At Akoefe Hon. Nfojoh supported a construction of a KVIP by donating 20bags of cement and promised that he will make himself available any day, any time, whether rain or shine, to help the people of his constituency.

At Takla-Torkor, he donated a quantity of roofing sheets in support of an on-going school project, which is being constructed with funds from patriotic citizens of Takla, prominent among them is the managing director of Emefs Construction Limited Mr. Akpebu Kwadzovi.

Mr. Akpebu, as part of his support for the project, gave a cash donation of 10million cedis and 200bags of cement.

Speaking to The Lens afterwards, Hon. Nfodjoh said the visit to the communities was part of his outreach programme, aimed at getting close to his constituents to brief them on developments in parliament, as well as to seek their views on topical national issues
