Nigerian gets 12 years for dealing in drugs

Accra, Sept. 16, GNA - A 35-year-old Nigerian trader who was arrested for swallowing 90 pellets of heroine was on Friday sentenced to 12 years imprisonment with hard by the Greater Accra Regional Tribunal. Nwude Chika Harrison had earlier pleaded not guilty to possessing and importing narcotic drugs without lawful authority but the Tribunal found him guilty.

The prosecution said Harrison was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on board the Royal Jordan Flight number ME575 from Pakistan to Ghana.

On suspicion that he was carrying drugs, officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) picked him for investigations.

Harrison confessed that he had swallowed some narcotic drugs while he was in Pakistan, which he was bringing to Ghana. Prosecution said he was sent to the 37 Military Hospital where an X-ray examination was conducted on him. Under close supervision by NACOB officials and some medical staff for two days, Harrison expelled 90 pellets, which were proved to be heroine.
