Nkawie Student wins the Youngest Scientist Award for 2002

Master Kwame Wiredu, a final year student of Kufuor Junior Secondary School (JSS) has won the "Unilever Youngest Scientist Award for 2002", sponsored by Unilever Ghana Foundation.

At a durbar of parents and pupils of the school at Nkawie in the Atwima district on Wednesday, Nana Amankwaa Kufuor, Nkosuohene of Nkawie-Kumaa, presented the certificate and 100,000 cedis to Master Wiredu.

Nana Amankwaa Kufuor, who is also the Chairman of the local School Management Committee (SMC) pledged the community's commitment towards the improvement of education in the area.

Mr F.C.K. Ntim-Gyakari, Circuit Supervisor of Schools for Nkawie advised the students to refrain from acts that might tarnish the good image and credibility of the school and urged them to be obedient, respectful, law-abiding and study hard to emulate the award winner.

He also advised them to stop attending video shows, concerts and other entertainment and social functions and activities that are not beneficial to them as students.

Mr. Simon Addai, the Headmaster of the school was happy that discipline in the school has improved tremendously due to the strict enforcement of school rules and regulations.

Mr Addai commended Master Wiredu for the honour done to the school, adding, "this honour, fame and dignity to the school, community and the district is a gesture worthy of emulation by all students in Atwima District".

Mr Kwaku Okyere, Vice-Chairman of the SMC, expressed satisfaction with the increasing and the highly improved academic performance of the school as well as the instilling of strict discipline and hard work in the students.

In 1998, the school placed second in the Ashanti Region "What Do You Know" competition, sponsored by the "A" Life Group of Companies.
