Nkoranza (B/A), Jan. 29, GNA- Mr. Kwame Ampofo Twumasi, Nkoranza District Chief Executive has commended the government for providing incentives to boost the morale of teachers and to enhance the provision of quality education.
Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi was speaking at a ceremony of which 72 bicycles supplied to the Nkoranza District Education Directorate for distribution to some female teachers who won a balloting exercise.
The government has paid a subsidy of 200,000 cedis on each bicycle, which cost 400,000 cedis and the lucky teachers would pay 200,000 cedis for each.
Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi expressed the hope that the bicycles would enable the teachers to re-double their efforts to improve academic standards in their schools.
The DCE commended the government for the subsidy and cautioned the beneficiaries against offering the bicycles for sale, as the District Assembly as well as the education directorate would take action against such practice.
Mr. Ampofo-Twumasi urged the teachers to register the bicycles with the District Assembly to enable them to draw maintenance allowance.
Mr. Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu, District Director of Education, expressed gratitude to the government for considering the plight of female teachers.
Mr Isaac Adoma, a teacher at Makyinmabre Local JSS in the district, the only teacher who reported for duty on the re-opening day of the school, was allocated one of the bicycles.
He also received 100,000 cedis from the District Chief Executive, Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, as part payment for the bicycle.
