Nkoranza schools to prevent land encroachment

Nkoranza (B/A), Nov. 3, GNA - The Board of Governors of Nkoranza Senior High School and Nkoranza Technical Institute have decided to fence round the area covering the two schools, to check land encroachment.

The plot, estimated at about a mile square and located along the Nkoranza-Techiman Highway, was freely released by the Nkoranza Traditional Council, under the leadership of the late Nana Kwaku Effah Guakro 11, former Omanhene of Nkoranza.

Mr. Akwasi Owusu-Sekyere, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Nkoranza Technical Institute, who disclosed this to GNA, said that despite a number of on-going development projects, some people have removed the boundary pillars and encroached the land.

He stressed: "It is unfortunate that some people have taken the law into their hands to put up structures across the boundaries of the schools even though the land is leased", and warned that encroachers would be taken to court.

Mr. Owusu-Sekyere commended Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, for contributing to the development of the two schools.

Mr. Albert Adusei, Principal, said that the Institute which was established in 2002/2003 had 306 students made up of 250 males and 16 females.

He mentioned the construction of a staff bungalow, a 12-unit two-storey classroom block, a dining hall, a kitchen, a girls' dormitory and a science and computer laboratory centre as some of the ongoing development projects at the Institute.

Mr. Adusei said that the Ghana Education Service has approved the supply of 20 computers to the Institute to enhance the teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology. Mr. Adusei appealed to government to provide the school with means of transport.

Mr. Ebenezer Amoah, Nkoranza South District Planning Officer, advised the Institute to establish contacts with foreign sister technical institutes, non-governmental organizations and philanthropists towards the development of the school.

He suggested the formulation of a development plan for the Institute.
