Residents of Nkrampor in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality of the Ashanti Region have staged a massive demonstration against the proposed siting of a CHPS Compound at the town’s cemetery by the Municipal Chief Executive.
The people led by their Chief, Nana Kwabena Frimpong (Akwamuhene) clad in red took to the streets chanting words of protest and vowed to resist any such move by Hon. Salisu Bamba with all their might.
They are at their wits end why the MCE will want to situate the health facility at the cemetery when the traditional authority had already provided a five-acre land elsewhere for such developmental projects.
But the MCE Hon. Salisu Bamba in an interview with host Henry Lord on Naagyei FM stated that the decision of the assembly to build the new CHPS Compound is intended to also serve the health needs of the inhabitants of neighbouring town of Drobon, as Nkrampor already has one.
According to him, the assembly had no hand in settling on where to construct the CHPS compound, adding that the proposed location is in the middle of both Nkrampor and Drobon towns which will make it more accessible to all the residents.
Bamba made it clear that no individual or group of people can stop the assembly or by extension the government from siting a facility at a particular location.
