Ace journalist and member of the Socialist Movement of Ghana Kwesi Pratt Junior has accused politicians of “selling legacies” of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, among themselves and their wives.
According to him, many of the state companies constructed by the late President have been destroyed by contemporary politicians.
Addressing a gathering in Accra on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the overthrow of Dr Nkrumah Tuesday, the managing editor of the Insight newspaper said developments in the country after the demise of Dr Nkrumah have been unfortunate.
“Many times, when my comrades in the Nkrumahist movement begin to talk about Nkrumah’s achievements, they talk about the Akosombo dam, the Gold refinery and the many others, but those are only the physical achievements of Nkrumah which were produced with ideas and those ideas are far more important than the physical structures.
“..Because we know as a fact that most of his legacies have been destroyed; completely destroyed and they no longer exist.
“Some of them have also been sold by the politicians to themselves and sometimes to their wives.” Pratt fumed.
