No GHS vehicles have been stolen or missing - GHS

Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams has been cleared by the GHS over the alleged stolen vehicles. Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams has been cleared by the GHS over the alleged stolen vehicles.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has described as false and malicious, a report suggesting that the former Upper East Regional Director and the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams and Dr. Appiah-Denkyira were being chased by the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over some missing vehicles belonging to the service.

The earlier publication revealed that the then Upper East Regional Director, Dr. Awoonor-Williams and the Director-General of the GHS, Dr. Appiah-Denkyira were being investigated by CHRAJ for being in the center of the alleged stolen five vehicles belonging to the Upper East Directorate of the GHS.

But a press release signed by Dr. Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira has refuted the report stating it was just mere allegations aimed at defaming the hard earned reputation of the former Regional Director and the Director-General.

“The Ghana Health Service takes strong exception to these false, mischievous and malicious publications and the use of social media to dent the integrity and reputation of hardworking staff of the service who have over the years rendered meritorious services to the country and endeared themselves throughout their working life,” the statement read.

RE: CHRAJ chases former Ghana Health Service Director over 5 stolen vehicles – A case of mischief

The attention of the Ghana health service has been drawn to spurious and unfounded allegations being circulated in some print and electronic media regarding alleged stolen vehicles in the upper East Region, which primarily aim at impugning the integrity of Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams, the former Upper East Regional Director and the Director General of the Ghana Health Service.

The Ghana Health Service therefore wishes to put on record that these allegations are completely false as no vehicles have been stolen or missing from the service.

The Ghana Health Service takes strong exception to these false, mischievous and malicious publications and the use of social media to dent the integrity and reputation of hardworking staff of the service who have over the years rendered meritorious services to the country and endeared themselves throughout their working life.

The service wishes to put on record that Dr. Koku Awoonor-Williams has done nothing untoward with respect to management of the vehicles during his stewardship in the Upper East Regional Health Directorate. It is noteworthy that the service has already provided all the relevant information with respect to these publications to CHRAJ, which initiated investigations into the issue when its attention was drawn to the alleged missing or stolen vehicles. It is envisaged that this rejoinder will put to rest any misgivings that the public may have on the alleged “stolen” vehicles in the Upper East Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service.

Thank You.
