Former CPP General Secretary, James Kwabena Bomfeh, a.k.a. Kabila, has come to the defense of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his comments regarding Ghana's hero, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The President, speaking on Founders’ Day, challenged the notion that Nkrumah was the only founder of Ghana, saying, “I speak to you this evening, rejecting completely the notion that one man founded Ghana. While Kwame Nkrumah’s contributions to our independence are undeniable, it is important to acknowledge for ourselves that the struggle for our nation’s freedom was a collective effort spanning several generations.”

He added, “Kwame Nkrumah, with his charismatic visionary leadership, was undoubtedly a major actor in the final lap of our journey to independence, and that is why, despite the several unfortunate things that happened after independence under his watch, Parliament in 2019 decided to memorialize his date of birth as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, the only Ghanaian so far to be so honored in our history.”

But the President, following his statement, has become a target for criticism, with some critics describing his comments as an affront to Kwame Nkrumah's legacy.

Tackling this issue during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, James Kwabena Bomfeh stressed that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah wasn't the only person in the struggle for Ghana's independence, hence the President is correct to acknowledge others as founding members.

On whether or not President Akufo-Addo's comments are an "insult," Kabila stated emphatically that President Akufo-Addo is the only Head of State under the 4th Republic to have highly honored Nkrumah.

"No President in the history of the 4th Republic has honored Kwame Nkrumah more than President Akufo-Addo. Creating the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, solid! Founding Ghana has never been about one man," he called on Akufo-Addo's critics to ease up on him.
