The Food and Drugs Authority has dismissed reports suggesting the emergence of some brand of bottled water on the market with very high pH level[more alkaline].

In a statement issued by the FDA Tuesday said:” The FDA through its Post Market Surveillance(PMS) has not found any registered package drinking water on the market with pH level outside this standard range(6.5-8.5).”

Social media has been awash with a video specifically via YouTube on the pH levels of some bottled water on the Ghanaian market purporting that some brands of packaged water with high pH level is better for health reasons than other brands which are less alkaline.

Contrary to such claims, the FDA in its statement advised the general public that any water with pH level[ more alkaline] outside the standard range(6.5-8.5) is not suitable for drinking.

Nonetheless, it asked the public to disregard the said video and further advised consumers to look out for the registration numbers of packaged drinking water before buying them.
