Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has denied reports that some officials of the Akufo-Addo’s administration protected Ms. Aisha Huang from being jailed.

At a media briefing today April 25, in Accra to discuss government’s fight against galamsey, Mr Asomah-Cheremeh told the media, Aisha Huang was not part of the discussion on the Sino-hydro loan and that she was not deported because of the deal.

“No government official thought of shielding her, no government official pampered her. There is nobody in the NPP that thought of dealing with Aisha in one way or the other so that she can perpetrate the illegal mining she was caught doing so as to enable Ghana to secure the loan from Chinese government”. He stressed.

The Lands Minister indicated that Aisha Huang specifically is not the first and only Chinese national to be deported as a result of illegal mining in Ghana.

“It is not only Chinese who have been deported neither is it only Aisha Huan that has been deported for purposes of Syno-hydro loan or purposes of Syno-hydro agreement that Ghana has with the Chinese government.”

He further established that the ‘galamsey queen’ was living in Ghana prior to government’s agreement to secure financial assistance with the Chinese government.
