No industrialisation, no 24-hour economy – Nana Kwame Bediako

Leader of the political movement, the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako believes industrialization is the only feasible route to realizing a 24-hour economic policy.

Speaking at the virtual launch of the New Force Movement’s 12 pillars for economic revolution in Accra on Sunday, September 1, 2024, ahead of the December 7 general elections, Nana Kwame Bediako criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) proposed work shift programmme, stating that it would be ineffective without a strong emphasis on industry.

“A machine, a plant, is the only thing that can give you jobs in three different shifts, eight hours times three a day.

"That is what I call a 24-hour economy,” Bediako asserted. He emphasized that industrialization is essential for creating a round-the-clock economy, which cannot be achieved by simply extending working hours for traditional market vendors.

“Who sells gari for 24 hours in Makola? The women in Kejetia and Kantamanto cannot work for 24 hours. It will take a factory, it will take a plant, and a production line to give three shifts a day. No industrialization, no 24-hour economy,” he added.

Nana Kwame Bediako stated that a 24-hour economy is unlikely to succeed without the development of factories and production lines.

"I have brought you your economic freedom with all this potential," he ended.
