The Deputy Attorney-General (A-G), Dr. Justice Srem Sai, has stated that until a court proves someone guilty, no one should be accused of an offence.

According to him, suspects need to be treated fairly regardless of suspicion or accusations.

He emphasized the importance of due process, cautioning against treating individuals as guilty before a court of law determines otherwise.

Speaking about the arrest of the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), he argued that the law must take its due course in all legal affairs.

“A while ago, I visited Mr. Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Madam Angela Adjei-Boateng, who are in the custody of law enforcement officials and are assisting in investigations. They confirmed to me that they have access to counsel of their choice and are being treated well.

"No one, regardless of the nature of the suspicion or accusations, should be treated as guilty until they’re proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction,” he said in a social media post on March 21, 2025.

Adu’s arrest was carried out in a joint operation between investigators from EOCO and the Attorney-General's Department at the Kotoka International Airport on the evening of Thursday, March 20, 2025.

GhanaWeb sources at the airport revealed that the operation was personally overseen by EOCO's Acting Deputy Executive Director, Raymond Archer, who was seen at the airport several hours before the arrest.

While EOCO has remained tight-lipped about the details, airport staff indicate that Kwabena Adu-Boahene, a prominent national security figure in the previous administration, may be facing serious allegations.

According to sources, he was intercepted upon arrival on a British Airways flight from Heathrow, London. EOCO operatives, armed with an arrest warrant, took him into custody.

The warrant suggests he is being investigated for multiple financial crimes, including money laundering and fraud, misappropriation of public funds, and causing financial loss to the state.
