No roads, no votes - Gomoa residents

The people of Gomoa Assin in the Central region have threatened to boycott the December general elections if they do not see substantial improvement in their living conditions prior to the polls.

According to the residents, their continuous participation in the democratic process in terms of voting has yielded no results as they continue to be denied their share of the national cake thereby wallowing in abject poverty.

The area which is a known crop farming hub with a population of over 4,000 people has been denied basic amenities like clinics, potable water and accessible roads.

The poor road network in the area, according to the people, has resulted in huge post-harvest losses as drivers are not willing to risk their vehicles to ply bad roads, leaving the poor farmers to their fate.

The people have therefore sent a strong message to the various political parties, especially the ruling NDC to fix their poor road network or risk being denied entry into the town for campaign activities as the party has failed in fulfilling its promises to them.

The Electoral Commission has also been advised by the people not to waste resources in sending electoral materials to the area if the road to the town is not fixed before December 7 as the people would not waste their energies in queuing to vote for leaders who do not care about their plight.

The assembly member for the area, Isaac Kwabena Forson on behalf of the people told Starr News: “We have been voting since 1992 and yet we have not experienced any improvement in our living conditions in Gomoa Assin, common basic amenities, we don’t have, we are tired and cannot vote for unproductive politicians”.
