North East Region creation: Gambaga residents organise campaign for 'yes' vote

The people of Gambaga, a town in the East Mamprusi Municipal Assembly of the Northern Region,on the 24th November, 2018 organized a massive campaign in support of the creation of the North East Region (NER).

Themed 'Restoring the former glory', the campaign brings to 4, the number of communities that have launched campaigns in support of the North East Region.

After Cheriponi opend the floor in launching their campaign to sensitise their people on the need to vote 'YES' in the referendum come December 27th, 2018, other zones including Walewale and Nalerigu zones followed suit.

In attendance were high profile politicians, opinion leaders, religious and traditional leaders, the media, students,community members and well wishes from far and near.

Noticeble amongst them were Chief of Gambaga( Gambaraana) Chief imam of Mamprugu, Dr. Musah Yamba Issahaku, and the presiding member of the east mamprusi Municipal Assembly.

Dr. Musah Yamba Issahaku as the main speaker, educated community members on the need for everyone to vote YES in the referendum to the make NER a reality, he also reminded the people that coming of a new region to Mamprugu is not a new thing as Mamprugu was the seat of the colonial government in the whole of the northern territories.

The zonal committee chairman in his address to the people,urged them to intensity their campaign and education, he added that the existing infrastructure in the proposed NER is adequate enough to temporarily accommodate government machinery until the government well equipped to manage all the newly created regions.

The said infrastructure can be found mostly in the two municipal capitals within the NER area (Gambaga and Walewale).

Over 10,000 people took part in the float through the principal street of Gambaga holding placards with inscriptions, 'YES TO NER', THANK YOU NANA ADDO", RESTORING THE FORMER GLORY ", NAYIRI, FATHER FOR ALL" and many others.

This massive turn out is expected to reflect in the outcome of the referendum in December this year where organizers expect 99? YES vote.
