North-Eastern Field of Ghana Baptist Convention hits target

Tamale, Feb. 21, GNA - The Ghana Baptist Convention North-Eastern Corridor has achieved its five-year target by building 400 churches from 2005 to 2010.

Authorities say plans were advanced to double this by 2015 and make strides in other walks of life. The five-year vision, which is made up of four components, include the training of about 450 leaders to man the various congregations. Rev. Emmanuel K. Mustapha, Home Missionary of the North-Eastern Field of Ghana Baptist Convention in Yendi, told the GNA in an interview that as part of the social service component, that about 2,000 women in the Yendi District were screened for breast cancer.

He said 300 of the women had several cases, 93We are raising funds to bus them to Kumasi for treatment very soon".

Rev Mustapha said to enhance the livelihood of the congregation and other people in the community, the church has also instituted a system in which the community benefits from a tractor service. He said the church had also drilled nine boreholes in deprived areas. Rev Mustapha said the target of the church for the next five years was to establish the Ghana Baptist School of Ministry where individuals who are not able to reach higher level of education could be enrolled.
