Northern Region NCCE marks constitutional week

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has begun series of activities including visiting various educational establishments to educate pupils about their civic rights and responsibilities especially as the nation moves towards Election 2012.

Mr Sulemana Harunah Hussein, Northern Regional Director of the NCCE, made this known in Tamale when he addressed students of the Tiyumba Junior High School (JHS) in Tamale at the weekend.

He called on the students to be law abiding, discipline and obedient to ensure that the nation got the full benefit of the investment made in them.

Mr Hussein said the constitutional week was celebrated every year as part of the NCCE activities where citizens were taught good virtues and values that would make them become responsible adults.

Hajia Samata Bukari, Deputy Regional Director of Education in-charge of Basic Schools urged the students to study hard and preach peace and other values that would make them good citizens.

She urged the students to protect national property and leave with their neighbours peacefully irrespective of their religion or ethnicity.

Hajia Bukari warned them to reframe from sexual activities as it could lead them to teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Miss Najat Anyagir, Girl’s Prefect of the JHS told the Ghana News Agency that the school lacks many teaching facilities making academic learning laborious.

She listed some of the challenges as lack of science laboratory, unavailability of some course books and poor classroom accommodation.

Miss Anyagir asked tutors of the school to guide against sexual harassments such as calling some students “wives” and inviting them out of the classrooms during learning and teaching hours.**
