Northern Region PNC declares support for NDC

Tamale, Dec. 23, GNA - The Northern Regional Executive of People's National Convention (PNC) has declared its support for National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Professor John Evans Atta Mills in the December 28 Presidential Election Runoff. Mr Iddrisu Andam Mu-azu, Deputy Northern Regional Secretary of the Party, who announce this at a press conference in Tamale on Tuesday, said the Regional Executives took the decision at a regional consultative meeting in Tamale.

He said their decision was to maintain "the consistency of the Party's message during the first round of the elections and by extension its credibility, ideological considerations and above all the leadership qualities of Professor John Evans Atta Mills as compared to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP".

The Regional Executive urged all PNC supporters to endeavour to ensure that the feeling of change that engulfed the people would be given effect come December 28 and entreated its members in all the constituencies not to only vote for the NDC but also help to campaign for its victory.

Meanwhile a number of former parliamentary aspirants and other party functionaries of PNC at another press conference opted to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The group included, Mr Emmanuel Wilson, National Youth Organiser, Mr Abu Sadik Kwashie, Deputy National Organiser, Mr Sulemana Dokurugu, a defeated Parliamentary Candidate for Tolon Constituency and Ms Rebecca N. Jobari, a defeated Parliamentary aspirant. They said since it was the Former President J.J. Rawlings, Founder of NDC, who overthrew Dr Hilla Limann, President of the Third Republic of Ghana, it was wrong for some members of PNC to support NDC. The group said it was in the light of this that they found it surprising that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party had declared their neutrality in the Presidential Election Runoff.
