Member of Parliament for the Tamale North Alhassan Suhuyinu has stated that there is nothing wrong for anyone to politicize issues surrounding the shutdown of Menzgold Ghana Limited, arguing government has a social contract with its citizens.

Mr. Suhuyini who was speaking on TV3 New Day on Thursday said persons from all political divide owe a sense of responsibility to the citizenry.

“The Menzgold saga should be politicized; there is no use of politics if it doesn’t guarantee the security of the citizens. As citizens, the government owes us to help us in whatever situation citizens find themselves because this is a matter of livelihood,” stated.

He alleged the government “rolled a red carpet” for the Chief Executive of the company, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1 by giving him an invitation to the presidency among others.

“The president tweeted about how such a man inspires him. Ministries of government such as the Ministry of Trade and Finance organized programs to award NAM 1, and he got to travel with ministers” he alleged.

Government has since last week denied posting such tweet in which it is alleged the president praised NAM1 for the successes of his businesses.

But Suhuyini insisted the said tweet is not fake as have been stated by the presidency, noting it has just been pulled down from the original account.

He alleged that government is only pretending to be serious about the whole NAM1 and Menzgold issue which has caused thousands of people to lose their investments.

According to the MP, there are credible and logical assessments for accusing the government of being responsible for the Menzgold crisis.

“Government is pretending to freeze the accounts of NAM1 after giving him the time to move some of his assets and sell. We have evidence from the wife packing things out of the shop at midnight, security men were called by neighbors and no one answered,” he further alleged.

Nana Appiah Mensah is currently in Dubai Police custody after a court order under the directive of President Akufo-Addo was issued for his arrest in Ghana following issues regarding his company, Menzgold.

The Securities and Exchange Commission ordered the shutdown of his company last year for not having the required license to operate.

This led to some agitations among customers of the company and the general public as a whole since Menzgold has since not paid its customers money deposited with the company. The issues has become a huge one in the public as a result of the huge sums of money some persons invested in the company.

It is on the back of this that many have called for appropriate measures to be put in place to deal with the issue instead of playing politics with the matter at hand.
