Notorious Drug Peddler Arrested

Luck eluded Seidu Majid, alias “Sorkor” 24-year-old tailor and resident of Hohoe-Zongo as he was arrested for allegedly peddling narcotic drugs in the Municipality.

Majid, who has been on the Police radar for some time, was over-powered in a movie-freak-style on Thursday evening after a hot-chase by the Police.

A back-pack found with him contained quantities of brownish wrapped powdery substance and dried leaves suspected to be cocaine and cannabis respectively, box of matches, pack of cigarette, pair of scissors, two packets of wrappers, two cell phones and GHc 270.00 cash.

Mr Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, Hohoe Divisional Crime Officer, briefing the Ghana News Agency, said Majid, a well-known drug dealer, who peddles his wares in the open but has been elusive until luck gave him up.

He said Police intelligence and surveillance marshaled against him over-powered him as he tried outwit them.

Mr Acheampong said a total of 64 wrapped brownish substance and 30 wrappers and quantities of dried leaves were found in his bag and pockets after a search.

He said the substance would be sent to the Ghana Standards Board for forensic examination while advice would be sought from the Attorney-General’s Department on the matter.

The Crime Officer entreated members of the general public to continue to volunteer information, which are vital tools in building intelligence ahead of criminals and social misfits in the communities.

Mr Acheampong said all such tip-offs and public information would always be treated as confidential adding, crime was becoming sophisticated and that police-community collaborations would not only take the fight to their doorsteps but also make life and property safe.
