Nsawam-Apedwa road poses danger to public

Tema, April 23, GNA -- Mr Samuel Fleisher-Kwabi, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Suhum Constituency has appealed to Government to repair the Nsawam-Apedwa stretch of the main Accra-Kumasi Highway immediately because it had become a death trap to the public.

He observed that the 42.5-kilometre road had caused many accidents due to the many potholes on it. Mr Fleisher-Kwabi explained that heavy duty vehicles plying the road in an attempt to dodge the potholes often crashed into on coming vehicles causing accidents.

Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tema on Wednesday, Mr Fleisher-Kwabi said even though plans were underway for the reconstruction of the Accra-Kumasi road, government should in the meantime rehabilitate that stretch of the road before the situation worsened.

He noted that in addition to causing accidents, the situation also delayed the transportation of goods using that road. Mr Fleisher-Kwabi said some roads in the Suhum Township required urgent attention due to their deplorable condition. He called on government to institute stringent measures to enforce the weighing of axle loads of heavy duty vehicles plying the Accra-Kumasi road because lack of its enforcement had contributed to the deplorable conditions of the road.
