Nsein Secondary School wins WR Constitution Game competition

Sekondi, Oct.24, GNA - Mr Kwaku Baa Owusu, Western Regional Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), last weekend said Ghana's democracy would be enhanced if people understood provisions of the Constitution.

He said the Constitution embodied the fundamental principles and laws of the country and these should be properly understood by the people to enable them contribute their quota to the democratic process. "School children and students should also acquaint themselves with the provisions of the constitution to make them patriotic," He added. Mr Owusu was speaking at the Western Regional competition on the Constitution game organised by the NCCE for 10 Senior Secondary Schools at Sekondi.

He said people should also live by the provisions of the Constitution to foster unity, peace and tolerance in the country.

The Regional Director said the Commission designed the game to facilitate study of the Constitution and the winner would represent the Region at a national competition during the Constitution Week next year. Nsein Secondary School won the competition with 24 points, followed by Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), Takoradi with 24 points and Asankrangwa Secondary Technical School with 15 points.

Other participating schools were, Diabene Secondary School, Methodist Secondary School, Sekondi, Saint Augustine Secondary School, Bogoso, Annor Adjaye Secondary School, Ezinlibo, Juabeso Senior Secondary School, Saint Mary's Boys Secondary School, Apowa and Sefwi Wiawso Secondary School.

Each of the participating schools was presented with a Constitution game, one abridged Constitution, four Civic Education Club "T" shirts and a poster on tolerance.
