"Nursing Training Schools' facilities need expansion"

Mankessim (C/R), Jan. 4, GNA - Mr Felix Nyarko Antwi, First Vice-Chairman of the Mfantseman West constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has appealed to the government to expand facilities in nursing training institutions to allow for more in-take of students. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mankessim, Mr Antwi noted that the exodus of Ghanaian nurses to seek greener pastures abroad had put some stress on the country's health facilities.

He said there were some qualified people who wanted to enter the nursing training schools but the limited facilities had deprived them of the chance.

Mr Antwi said the situation would affect the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme when it fully took off, as there would not be enough nurses to attend to the patients.

He urged school authorities to re-introduce civic education in the school curriculum and emphasise the evils of corruption and other social vices as a way of curtailing their occurrence in the society.
