Nyinahin citizens in Diaspora to assist sanitation

Nyinahin citizens residing in the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States of America (USA), have offered to assist the Atwima-Mponua District Assembly, to evacuate the heaps of refuse engulfing the town.

In a message mailed to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Otis Kwame Okyere Darko, a spokesman for the citizens, said poor sanitation which posed a serious health risk to residents, was also a disincentive to draw native non-residents home.

“We really want to link up with the District Assembly to map out modalities on how we can collaborate to solve the sanitation problem, to make home-coming a real excitement and delight, because there is no place like home,” he added.

He said the situation was stopping the return of citizens who had been in the diaspora for more than 20 years and were willing to come home and help, whilst tourists were put off by swarms of mosquitoes which had infested some of the guest houses.

Mr Darko said reliable information reaching them cited one of such garbage dumps around the Asiedu Hotel in Nyinahin, which had been there for years without being removed.

“Certain parts of the township are without toilet facilities, compelling people to defecate in classrooms and at refuse dumps,” he added.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Nyinahin Township those refuse dumps mentioned were found, and there were no toilet facilities in the mentioned areas.
