OMA to spend 3.9bn cedis on Mandatory project this year

Obuasi(Ash), May 11, GNA- The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) is to spend over 3.9 billion cedis out of the total 8.8 billion cedis allocated to it under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) this year on ten mandatory projects and programmes.

These included the National Youth Employment Programme(NYEP), Self-help Community projects, Municipal Response initiative on HIV/AIDS, Malaria control and National Training Programmes.

Others are Scholarship Scheme, Support to Municipal Sub-Structures, Support to the Physically Challenged, Sports and Culture and Contingencies.

Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and Acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive announced at the assembly's general meeting at Obuasi.

He said 3.4 billion cedis would be used to finance on-going projects and programmes whilst the 1.46 billion would be applied to service new projects and programmes.

The acting MCE, named the completion of Horsey Park stores, construction of library complex, rehabilitation of two labourers' quarters, five defective public septic latrines and the supply of 400 door to door refuse bins, as some of the on-going projects and programmes.

Other on-going projects included the construction of mortuary at the Obuasi Government Hospital, construction of five canteens/kitchens for schools hooked on the school feeding programme, GETFund projects at Mampamwhe and the supply of teak poles for rural electrification programme.

Mr. Assebey-Antwi said that part of the HIPC fund of 600 million cedis released to the Assembly would be expended to construct three 16-seater vault chamber toilets at Diawoso ,Dokyiwa and Ahansoyewodea . The Deputy Minister added that the rest would be used to complete the six unit classroom block, office, store, library and a six-seater toilet at Kunka.
