Chairman of the United Kingdom branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, otherwise known as Wofa K, has opined that North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa is not a credible personality to chair the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) Committee.
He stated that the ORAL initiative, whose key objective is to fight corruption and retrieve all looted assets from public officials, should not have a character like the MP to chair it.
Speaking on ‘As it is in Ghana’ with Sir Richie on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM Ghana and 92.4FM in the UK, he stated that the ORAL committee should have been led by men with unquestionable character traits.
Wofa K stated, “I have seen the team Mahama has assembled with the objective of recovering all loot. Some of the committee members have corrupt backgrounds and mindsets. Someone like Okudzeto Ablakwa is unfit to lead the anti-corruption committee. We were in the country when he washed his car, and more than GH¢250,000 went missing.
"Martin Amidu accused him of championing the create, loot, and share judgment debt cases. He was leading the campaign and putting pressure on the attorney general to approve judgment debt.
"So, he is untrustworthy as a team leader. Domelevo was also accused of forging his age and remaining in office rather than receiving a pension. He lacks trustworthiness. The remaining team members are all involved in alleged corruption cases,” he added.
He believes ORAL is a good idea, but those in charge are unqualified to lead the campaign.
He hoped that this ORAL would not be a witch-hunt, but that due diligence would be used to ensure that all cases of alleged corruption are investigated and dealt with holistically.
“They did the same thing after taking over from President Kufuor. They spread false information and accused Kufuor’s appointees until they were all cleared by the court. If they do not do that with ORAL but instead ensure diligence, I will support them and will not defend any individuals cited for corruption who go unpunished.”
