Oakland City Gives to Essikado Hospital, Library

Essikado (W/R) July 27, GNA - A delegation from Oakland City in the U.S. on Saturday, presented hospital equipment, an ambulance and assorted drugs worth more than 500 million cedis to the Essikado Hospital to further strengthen the sister city relationship between Oakland and Sekondi-Takoradi. The delegation also presented 900 dollars as seed money for a scholarship scheme to support the education of brilliant but needy students in some schools in the area and assorted books for the community library.

The gifts, were presented by Dr. Root Love, leader of the delegation to Mr. Joseph Boahen Aidoo, Western Regional Minister at a ceremony at Essikado, near Sekondi. The chiefs and people used the occasion to confer honorary citizenship on Dr. Root Love for her untiring efforts to make the bond of relationship between Oakland and Sekondi-Takoradi beneficial to both cities.

Mr. Aidoo thanked the delegation and the people of Oakland for demonstrating their love and support to the needy and said the assistance should motivate and encourage the people to do more to improve their lot.

Mr. Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive said a satellite link between Oakland city and Sekondi-Takoradi would soon be established to begin distant learning and tele-medicine project.

Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhene of Essikado traditional area said, the gifts would go a long way to improve health service delivery to enhance the lives of the people. He commended Dr. Root Love and others, who had worked hard to make the Oakland, and Sekondi-Takoradi sister city relationship, beneficial to the people of Essikado.

Dr. Love thanked the chiefs and people for the honour done her and pledged to work even harder for more fruitful cooperation between the peoples of Oakland and Sekondi-Takoradi.
