Obed Accused Of Favouring Dr Botchwey

The campaign for votes by two contestants for the NDC Presidential slot has taken an interesting twist. On Tuesday, a hurried press conference was convened by a group calling itself Victory Youth Club within the NDC, which claimed that they exist to help canvass support for the NDC to win power from NPP.

Interestingly, the group accused Dr Obed Asamoah, the party’s National Chairman of openly supporting Dr Kwesi Botchwey in his campaign for the flagbearership slot. It also accused Dr Asamoah of supporting Dr Botchwey with money they believed was the NDC’s own money and using the existing party structures in achieving their campaign objective to the disadvantage of Prof J.E. A. Mills and other probable candidates who might express their interest to contest the polls.

The group referred to an allegation in the Ghanaian Chronicle newspaper that Kwesi Botchwey/Obed Asamoah campaign machine had initiated moves to pay outstanding bills and rents in constituencies, which according to them leaves much to be desired.

They contend that the publication was not denounced either by Kwesi Botchwey or any member of his campaign team. They queried why Dr Botchwey did not bring the money to help in the 2000 elections and also in 2001 when the NDC was broke and the constituency offices were closed down.
