The people of Obregyima-Nsawam in the Eastern region have appealed to the district assembly to provide them with potable water to avert the imminent outbreak of water-borne diseases in the area.
The community, which has a population of more than 5,000 people, depending on the only one borehole in the town that was provided about 10 years ago as their only source of good drinking water.
Mr. William Wilson Otuah assembly member for Obregyima told Daily View Gh’s Dickson Boadi that the situation has compelled many people to use other sources of water including ponds that are contaminated.
Some people have resorted to the use of certain chemicals to treat water from a unhygienic source that also posed a great danger to their health.
The assembly member called for the reshaping of roads in the area to ensure easy transportation of goods and services and said owing to the bad nature of roads food and cash crops are sometimes locked up in the farms.
