President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s call to Ghanaians to observe prayers and fasting on Wednesday March 25, 2020, against the spread of Coronavirus has been heavily supported by former President John Dramani Mahama.

President Nana Addo in a televised address on Sunday March 21, declared Wednesday March 25, 2020, a national day of prayer and fasting.

The call follows a surge in the number of recorded confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country.

In a call to Ghanaians to observe outlined safety protocols in the fight against COVID-19, former President John Dramani Mahama called on Ghanaians to observe the national day of prayer and fasting as declared by the President.

“I remind us all, of the national day of prayer and fasting, now announced by the President, and invite us all to observe next Wednesday as declared,” the former President said.

He further admonished Ghanaians to “Let us all hold fast to the preventive measures. They are our first line of defence as individuals, and a collective responsibility. They are currently the only means by which we can slow down this dreadful virus and provide enough time to mount a robust response.”

John Dramani Mahama cautioned against profiteering from the current pandemic through excessive hikes in the prices of hand sanitizer and other needed logistics.

“For all people of faith, this is a time to show charity and compassion. I urge you to reflect on your beliefs, and not to engage in practices that will escalate the present anxieties in the nation. Price hiking and other such opportunistic practices are beneath the dignity of the moment.”
