The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has organized a colorful ceremony to outdoor six (6) sets of equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) to reshape deplorable roads in the area.

Speaking at a ceremony to commission the machines, the Chief Executive of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Elijah Adansi-Bonah described the DRIP initiative as a game changer that will help to repair poor roads, especially in the rural areas of Obuasi.

Obuasi has had its fair share of good roads after the government announced that 2020 was the "year of roads".

Most of the internal roads including the central business district roads have been asphalted, drawing commendations from the people to the government.

However, some of the rural roads are still in poor state forcing the assembly to spend a chunk of its budget on road maintenance and spot improvement.

According to the MCE, the equipment has come at the right time, adding that work will soon begin on some internal roads that need major facelifts.

He mentioned roads in communities like Kunka, Abompekrom, Kulem, Biakoyeden and Mamiriwa, Nkamprom as those earmarked to start in earnest.

On maintenance, Adansi-Bonah said the assembly has put in place measures to safeguard the equipment and use it for its intended purpose.

"We have security detailed in place to protect the equipment but we need the support of the general public to collectively help us to protect the equipment and use them for their intended purpose."

The equipment outdoored included a grader, wheel loader, water bowser, tipper truck, backhoe, and roller.

They are expected to play a significant role in reshaping deplorable roads in the municipality and also create more jobs for the youth according to the Member of Parliament for the Obuasi West constituency Kwaku Kwarteng.

He commended Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for the bold step in resolving the challenges with road networks in the country.

"This government has done so much in the area of road. The DRIP project is a great project that demonstrates the government's commitment to addressing the challenges we are facing as a country", the Obuasi West MP stated.

Kwabena Nsenkyire, an Ashanti Regional DRIP coordinator emphasized the need for the people to vote massively for the New Patriotic Party based on the successes it has chalked since it came to government.

He said renewing the mandate of the NPP government is the only way the people of Obuasi can appreciate the good works of the government.

The Member of Parliament for Odotobiri constituency who is also a Regional coordinator for DRIP said adequate measures have been put in place to ensure that the equipment is used for their intended purpose.
