Obuasi, June 25, GNA - The Obuasi constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has said the re-nomination of Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong as the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive places the party in good stead for the 2008 general elections.
In an appreciation letter to the President, signed jointly by Mr John Dickson Baidoo, the chairman and Stephen Acquah, the secretary, the party stressed, "with his re-nomination, the party is well placed for the 2008 elections". The letter commended President Kufuor, saying, "It is in response to the joy that the party members received the news of Boampong's re-nomination that the general meeting of the party took a unanimous decision to express our appreciation to Your Excellency".
The letter said though the party would have welcomed any nominee by the President, it was extremely pleased and honoured that the members' preference and that of the President had coincided. "We feel re-assured that the Office of the President is in tune with local realities", it said.
The party was confident that members of the Municipal Assembly would confirm the President's nominee. "We are also confident that the dynamic and hard working Boampong, in his second term, will even better his first term's performance, which has endeared him to the people of Obuasi", the letter added.
