Obuasi town roads to be rehabilitated

The government, under the Urban Five Project, is spending 4.034 billion cedis to rehabilitate 2.2 kilometres of Obuasi town roads.

The rehabilitation involves double surface dressing and covers all the deplorable portions within the central part of the town and would be completed by November 3.

The formal handing over of the project sites to the contractor, Nkwantabisi Engineers, an Accra-based road construction firm, took place at a short ceremony at Obuasi last Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, the District Chief Executive, said the project was important to the residents and delays would not be appreciated.

He was hopeful that the contractor would live up to expectation to get the job done within the contract period of nine months.

'We do not want the project to be completed and within a short period we start filling potholes," Mr Boampong said.

Mr J. Twumasi-Mensah, Managing Director of Nkwantabisa Engineers, gave the assurance that the job would be executed to the satisfaction of all.

''Our firm does not compromise on quality and we appeal to stakeholders to be watchful against the stealing of cement and other materials that invariably affect quality of work.''
