The National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary candidate for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Founder of the Obuobia Foundation, Ms Obuobia Darko-Opoku last weekend joined the University College of Management Studies (UCOMS), Accra Campus for their 5th congregation.

She also presented the Obuobia Foundation's award of a GHC1,000 to the best female graduating student, Miss Kafayat Abolanle Sheu.

She urged her to continue to be a role model to the community, nation and the world at large.

The award of the best female student award is the Foundation’s contribution to a just and noble cause.

The Obuobia Foundation believes that education provides the launchpad for developing our people and taking our people out of poverty.

In an interview, Ms Darko-Opoku mentioned that the foundation has placed additional emphasis on girl child education as they believe that the girl child still requires special attention and support in a lot of our communities.

“Sponsoring and awarding outstanding female students will not only motivate the female student to give off her best but also serves to promote those awardees as role models in their communities. Their exploits will motivate their peers and community members to place greater value and premium on educating the girl child.” she added

The Obuobia Foundation has over the years supported educational infrastructure, distribution of educational materials like maths sets to prepare candidates for their examinations, payment of school fees and many others within the Weija-Gbawe constituency.
