Preliminary findings from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have cited faulty electrical wiring as the cause of the fire outbreak at the Odawna Market at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

Last week’s devastating fire razed down about 80 stalls and destroyed goods worth thousands of cedis.

According to the GNFS further investigations will be carried out with other agencies into the incident.

However, the market has been opened to the public after it was temporally closed down, but parts which were ravaged by the fire have been cordoned off for safety reasons.

Speaking to Class News, PRO for GNFS Robinson Opoku “We did an assessment with other stakeholders, NADMO, police and the Metropolitan authorities and we observed that 111 containers both wooden and metal had been destroyed totally. We also observed that 40 containers were partially burnt...

“Preliminary investigations prove that the cause of the fire is electrical even though it is not confirmed. We are still doing further investigations to confirm that”.
