Oforikrom NDC confident in President Mahama

The Oforikrom Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has implored supporters and delegates to comport themselves to ensure the success of the Special Congress of the party scheduled for Kumasi at the end of this month.

It reminded stakeholders that the party believed in the rule of law and that it was the responsibility of activists to uphold democratic principles before, during and after the Congress to enable the NDC to achieve its objectives.

The activists ought to shun all forms of utterances and practices that had the tendency to create confusion or dent the party’s image.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Evans Ablordeppey, the Constituency Organizer of the NDC, copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Sunday.

The statement urged stakeholders to use the Congress to foster continuity in the party by endorsing President John Dramani Mahama, as well as Vice-President Paa Kwesi Amissah- Arthur to lead the NDC in the 2012 General Election.

“It is our conviction that endorsing President Mahama as the flagbearer is in the best interest of the party considering his competence, youthful exuberance, commitment to the cause of the nation and humility”, the statement noted.

It described President Mahama as the right candidate capable of continuing from where the late President Evans Atta Mills left off, adding that, “having worked with the late President for quite some time he (Mahama) had gained the necessary expertise and experience needed to transform Ghana for the better.”

“We urge all well-meaning activists, supporters and the rank and file to bury their differences and unite to enhance the party’s chances”.

The statement enumerated some of the good policies and programmes initiated by the government to augment the socio-economic development in the country, ranging from infrastructural and health development to youth employment as well as the campaign against drug trafficking.

It indicated that the Oforikrom Constituency had in the last three years benefited immensely from the good governance of the NDC, citing various educational projects, rehabilitation of roads and youth employment.
